George L. Pittman, 84, passed away Friday afternoon, February 3, 2012, at the Richard Roudebush V.A. Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a resident of Greenwood.

He was born on February 22, 1927 in Indianapolis to Joseph and Lottie (Vaught) Pittman. He married Alice Holt on January 12, 1946 in Indianapolis. Survivors include his wife, Alice Pittman of Greenwood; one son, Gary L. Pittman of Greenwood; two brothers, John (Joann) Pittman of Franklin, Richard (Dee) Pittman of Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer Clark) Biehn of Greenwood, Richard (Brittany) Biehn of Avon, and Alicia (Edward) Schweitzer; and four great grandchildren, Kelsey Biehn, Emma Noelle Biehn, Maizey Biehn, and Elizabeth Biehn.

George was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Marcia Pittman Biehn; brothers, Stylen and Ruben Pittman; and sisters, Barbara Lee Pittman, Pat Miller, and Betty Paul.

He was employed at American Steel Workers with American National Can in Indianapolis for 36 years, retiring in 1980. He later went to work for Perry Township Schools in the maintenance department for 10 years.

George was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of Greenwood American Legion Post #252.

He was a member of Englewood Masonic Lodge #715, F. & A.M.

George was a very loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Friends are invited to call Saturday, from 10AM to 1PM, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street. Rev. Shan Rutherford will officiate the funeral ceremony at 1PM at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest, with military honors, at the Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of George are suggested to the Alzheimers Association, 50 E. 91st Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46209-4830.
